Knowing yesterday was going to be the hottest day of all time (today’s no better), I prepared in advance by popping into the Robin Hood Hotel drive-thru on Thursday night and picking up a Canimal of Pirate Life White Lab Pilsner. Heat waves are no place for eye popping IPA’s full of aggressive hops and huge malt bills. Give the man an ice cold lagered beverage please (disclaimer – no slops, it still has to taste good)!

Step in the boys from Pirate Life with a magnificent rendition of the often tried, rarely nailed light, German, hoppy lager. Poured a beautiful clear, pale straw with a frothy white head that sadly dissipated quickly. Never mind. Attractive aromas of bread malt, honey, peach, grass, grapefruit and just a lick of Belgian style yeast invite you in. A thoroughly delicious, clean, crisp mouth-feel full of spicy, bitter hops and just an ever slight sweet back note of bread malt and honey. Completely refreshed, I lament the fact I only bought one and am sitting through the second 40 degree day in a row.

Great beer. Victory Prima Pils is the only version I’ve had that pips it.
