It doesn’t seem apt to describe a brewery that was established in 2011 as one to watch, but that is exactly what can be said of Two Birds. After years of perfecting their small core range, they are now starting to push out their smaller batch specialty beers into more accessible distribution. Keep an eye out for them and grab them. They’re good. The Double Sunset is essentially their Sunset Ale on malt and hop steroids. I like the original, but wow this version is good. It’s one of the most enjoyable beers I’ve had for some time.

Bottle. Pours a deep, deep amber with a small well but retained cream head and strong lacing. Aromas of earth and pine needles, toffee malt, hints of dark chocolate, biscuits and grapefruit. Big burnt caramel malt flavours with a chewy, oat like texture, biscuit, stewed stone fruits and a very firm dry/rye and earthy bitterness, with grapefruit finish. Complex, bitter, malty and delicious. Great balance despite it’s 75IBU’s. Drink it fridge cold as the grog pokes out a little as it warms up.
