On a scorching Sydney summer afternoon I had an hour to spend at The Rocks Brewery. I like this place – unpretentious, great food and well made beers. While the Christmas Rum and Raisin Porter sounded interesting, there was no way that was for me on a day the mercury was nudging 35 degrees. So I was wrapt to see the ‘Berliner’ on offer, a honeydew melon Berliner Weisse to quench a parched throat.

Tap @ Brewery. Light, cloudy straw colour with virtually no head. Aromas of honeydew melon, vinegar and lactose. Good straight up sourness, followed by a touch of peppery wheat, savouriness and just a lick of honeydew melon sweetness. Perfectly carbonated (medium to high) and ridiculously refreshing.
