Melbourne outfit La Sirene, the undisputed Australian King of French Farmhouse Ales. With beautiful Champagne style bottles and even more beautiful beers, they are one of my favourite Australian brewers. Whilst the ‘Fleur Folie’ isn’t my favourite La Sirene (I’ll save that for the Saison and Belle Farmhouse Ale) it’s still a lovely drop.
Bottle. Pours a straw/gold with a billowing white head. Sweet, subtle aromas of honey and citrus blossom, underpinned by pepper, cardamon, vanilla and just a hint of banana – all the classic Belgian yeast qualities. Honey, caramel malts and a big dose of grog (which doesn’t detract) makes for a rich mouthfeel, but flower blossoms add some freshness and an earthy hop and dry yeast finish make it an enjoyable French table beer.
