Two Birds Brewing, established in 2011, was the first brewery owned by women in Australia. I’ve had quite a few of their brews over the years and they’ve always impressed. I love the core range Sunset Ale and ‘Slayer’, their GABS 2017 Berliner Weisse just missed out on my top 5 of the festival. A pale ale is usually a brewers mainstay, but the girls have only just relented to peer pressure and created ‘Pale’, an American Pale Ale with a difference – two different types of oats to improve the mouthfeel. Keep an eye out for their seasonal releases too

Bottle. Pours a very light hazy gold, with a well retained white frothy head. Aromas of tropical fruit – pineapple, mango, passionfruit  – as well as spicy notes. Spicy and bitter pine up front, moving into a smooth mid palate (the oats add mouthfeel rather than flavour) and pine finish. As it warms up in the glass the caramel malt becomes more detectable and adds additional body. Despite the oats it’s quite light and unusual in that it’s spicy, smooth and refreshing all at once. I’ll be adding this as a regular six-pack in the fridge.
