PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT. This is my new ‘by the case beer’. Since the 4 Pines sell out I’ve been looking for a new local day to day pale ale. I first drank the Philter XPA on tap at the Sydney Park Hotel not long after it was released. It was at the end of a big night and straight after the outstanding The Grifter Demon Lung smoked porter. To say it didn’t quite stand out after that was a little unfair, so I grabbed a couple of cans at the local bottlo to try out for my ongoing search. My search is over. I’ll be buying a case this weekend.
Can. Pours a light, cloudy straw colour with a small white head. Hie tropical aromas, full of passionfruit, pineapple, mango, lychees and melons. Upfront pine and spicy hops that wind right through the beer. Plenty of tropical fruit and a hint of biscuit malt adding balance. Relatively highly carbonated and highly smashable.
