Yulli’s ‘Dad’s Army Lark Barrel Aged Imperial Stout’ (Imperial Stout) – Surry Hills, NSW
A recent long weekend in the cold of the Blue Mountains, just outside of Sydney called for a big stout to warm the cockles. Luckily I had just the beer, the Yulli’s Dad’s Army Lark Barrel Aged Imperial Stout that Tim had given me a few months back in a canimal from Robin Hood. These guys make some magnificent beers and this was no exception. Couple them with one of Australia’s great distillers and it’s a match made in heaven. Oh I love winter.
Canimal from Robin Hood Hotel. Pours jet black with a small mocha head that quickly dissipates. Strong roasted espresso aromas, along with very dark chocolate, booze soaked dried fruits and oak. Big, boozy, complex flavours, intertwined around the oak and showcasing strong espresso, dark chocolate, highly roasted malts, nuts and a good dose of hop bitterness to finish and clean up all the richness. Thick, luscious mouthfeel. A beautiful slow sipper.
