When the guys at Leura Cellars recommend something, you take their advice, so despite the fact I wouldn’t normally go for a 10%, 100 IBU IPA monster, the Six String Double Dark Red IPA happily ended up in my fridge. And what a beauty. A huge malt bill keeps the delicious hops in balance, making it a perfect winter IPA. The theme of supporting local artists continues, with @dalehessey providing the can art.

Can. Pours deep copper with a red tinge, thick off white well retained head. Aromas of resinous pine and citrus hops interplay with caramel, toffee and chocolate (unusual for this style of beer, but delicious) malts. An immediately rich mouthfeel full of sweetish caramel and stewed peaches, moving into an oily, resinous bitter middle full of grog (which doesn’t detract) and a choc caramel finish. A wonderfully balanced, rich winter IPA.
