Sitting back in the wonderful beer garden of Marrickville’s  @the_henson(my favourite suburban pub in Sydney) last Sunday, my brother-in-law and I quenched our thirsts with a wonderful Pilsner from @thegrifterbrewingco . I’ve learnt over the past summer how good this style is in the hands of a good brewer, and The Grifter are very, very good. Given I had to drive past their brewery to get home, a squeeler fill was in order, and the Black Moon (a dark sour) caught my eye on a stormy evening. Filled with dark malts and boysenberries, the only thing better than the Pilsner and Dark Moon was the macaroni and cheese with truffle, cauliflower, silverbeet and leek at The Henson.
Squeeler from the brewery. Pours a dark, aged Cabernet Sauvignon colour, with a small deep purple head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee and sour dark berries. Immediate puckering sourness of dark berries, moves into chocolate, a slight hint of espresso, almonds, and a long moderately sour finish, full of tannin and black berries.
