I really love hoppy red beers at this time of year. Sometimes I need a hop fix, wrapper around comforting malts as opposed to the black beers I often drink at night in winter. During the week I had three different versions, but the best by far was the Alpine Red X by @jindabynebrewing . It’s over a decade since I’ve been down to the NSW Snowy Mountains and hadn’t heard of this brewery before. I’m not sure I’m going to get to the snow anytime soon, but if you’re down there this winter I’d suggest dropping in after a day on the slopes or if the weather is no good to check out the range.
Can. Pours deep copper with thick off white head and good lacing. Aromas of light caramel, biscuit and backnotes of citrus flowers. More forward citrus and pine hop flavours than the aroma suggests, with moderate to firm bitterness, balancing rich toffee/caramel malt and a lingering earthiness.

3.7/5. Trent
