Generally I try not to review a beer twice, but the @twobirdsbrewing Double Sunset is an exception! Two years ago I had this special edition amped up version of their core range Sunset, so when I saw they’d brewed it again I was very excited. It was in my 2007 top 5 and there will have to be some remarkable beers to keep it out this year. This is a big beer, with 70 IBU’s lurking beneath, but Two Birds are so good with malt, that it’s immaculately balanced. So good in fact, I went and bought a few more bottles today, before the limited edition runs out. 🍻
Bottle. Pours a deep, deep amber with a small well retained cream coloured head and strong lacing. Aromas of earth and pine needles, toffee malt, hints of dark chocolate, biscuits and grapefruit. Big dark caramel malt flavours with a chewy, oat like texture, biscuit, stewed stone fruits and a very firm dry/rye and earthy bitterness, with grapefruit finish. Complex, bitter, malty, delicious. Great balance at 70 IBU. Best drunk quite cold, so I’d suggest two half pours from the 500mL bottle.
4.2/5. Trent. Purchased @lugarnocellars
